Motherhood Meets Entrepreneurship: Finding Passion and Purpose in Both

Katie Lyke | Austin Lifestyle Newborn, Family, and Branding Photographer

Motherhood and entrepreneurship are both deeply transformative journeys. They stretch you, refine you, and challenge you in ways you never expected. As a mom and a business owner in Austin, Texas, I have found that these two roles don’t just coexist—they shape and influence each other in powerful ways.

Answering the Call to Motherhood

Becoming a mother is one of the greatest callings of my life. It has changed my perspective on time, priorities, and the fleeting nature of the little moments. As a girl mom of one-soon-to-be-two daughters, I have the privilege of raising strong, kind, and resilient women. They will be my greatest teachers, reminding me daily of the beauty in curiosity, patience, and unconditional love.

Motherhood has also made me more intentional. It has taught me to savor the in-between moments—the snuggles before bed, the peals of laughter during bath time, the quiet mornings before the world wakes up. This awareness naturally spills into my work, where I strive to capture these very moments for other families through my lifestyle newborn and family photography images.

Building a Business with Heart

My journey as an Austin motherhood and branding photographer began with a love for storytelling. As I grew in my craft, I realized that what I truly wanted was to freeze time for families, to preserve the fleeting seasons as they come, and to create images that bring joy for generations. But beyond that, I found my passion in capturing the essence of motherhood and the heart behind mom-owned businesses in Austin.

My business is more than just a job—it is an extension of my heart, a way to serve and uplift other mothers and entrepreneurs. I understand firsthand the deep love, the sacrifice, and the hard work that goes into both raising a family and growing a business. This is why I am so passionate about capturing those stories—whether it’s the raw beauty of motherhood, the powerful connection between a mom and her children, or the drive and dedication behind a mom-owned business. Every image I take is a reflection of those sacred moments and the heart behind them.

Lessons from Both Worlds

Motherhood and entrepreneurship have taught me invaluable lessons:

  • Flexibility – Every day is different, whether with my kids or in my business. Learning to pivot gracefully is key.  My previous life as an ER nurse helps with this immensely!

  • Patience – Growth takes time, both in business and in motherhood. The late nights and hard moments are all part of the journey.  Know that each season is temporary and that the difficulties keeping you up at night right now will ultimately be woven into the fabric of your amazing story.

  • The Power of Community – Surrounding myself with other Austin moms and fellow business owners has been such a game changer.  We aren’t meant to live this life alone—as we’re walking through motherhood or growing our businesses.  Find your people—they’ll help build you up, encourage your growth, or at least listen as you vent over group text about the challenges of the day!

  • Purpose in the Passion – When your business is built on your calling, it becomes more than just work. It becomes a way to serve, to create, and to leave a lasting impact.

Living Your Calling with Joy

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that living your calling isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence. Whether I’m snuggling my babies or capturing the love between a mother and her own children through my lens, I know I am exactly where I am meant to be, and that is an incredible feeling.

To my fellow mom-owned business owners: You are doing incredible work. Whether you're rocking a client meeting with a baby on your hip or sneaking in work during nap time, you are living your calling in a way that is uniquely yours. Keep showing up, keep creating, and keep cherishing the moments that matter most.

Whatever season you’re in—whether it’s the tender days of early motherhood, the exciting (but challenging) season of building a business, or the beautiful chaos of balancing both—I would be honored to capture it for you. If you’re looking for an Austin motherhood photographer or branding photographer who truly understands this season of life, I’d love to chat about how we can create something meaningful together that reflects your heart, your passions, and your own unique journey.
